It smells like spring!

After some long and rainy winter months, time for Spring! For most of us, this is synonymous with light sunbeams, sweet warmth, fresh nature smells, liveliness, and blossoming flowers. At The Alchemist Atelier, we want to feel accordingly, and change our fragrance to match this new season. Why not create a new fragrance to express this light feeling of renaissance?

 

Most of the time, freshness, liveliness and light, are short term effects. We feel a wavy, subtle note, making an agreeable start in our fragrance. In a nutshell, perfect for Spring. Let’s focus on 5 perfume families commonly used for these effects :

 

Citrus Family

Mainly composed of lemon, bergamot, orange, mandarin, grapefruit, lime, citron… This family is characteristic of freshness as they are highly volatile. The citruses mostly add sparkles, light, as well as a juicy, fizzy, refreshing effect. Universally used, they only need a small increase to cheer up any fragrance.

 

Green Family

This family is built around every scent related to greenness: grass, green fruits like apple or pear, green tea, leaves…They are very important to highlight a natural effect to the fragrance. Indeed, they give texture, sharpness, and vibration to every note they combine with. I love using them with flowers to increase their blossoming effect.

 

Aromatic Family

Gathering most of the plants we grow in an aromatic garden like lavender, rosemary, sage, thyme, parsley, laurel, basil… the aromatic family gives a natural impression to a composition. Moreover, it gives texture to citruses, enlights flowers, dresses up the woods, and boosts spices.

 

Marine Family

The marine ingredients tend to recall the original smell of ambergris, this animal stone that develops a marine smell after being carried by sea. Today, we also consider other notes like water notes, salty notes… They are very handy to give air to the aromatics and the spices. Subtle, soft, delicate, they enlight a rich floral heart or a strong woody drydown.

 

Spicy Family

Easily found in our kitchen, spices like pepper, cardamom, coriander, cinnamon, pink peppercorn, chilli… are useful in fragrances as well. They bring texture, sparkles, identity, and contrast by complexifying the aromatics, highlighting flowers, boosting citruses, and colouring the woods. One of my favourite additions is with the Marine Breeze to create a wavy light spice.
